camping at stonybrook

Stonybrook is full of adventure . . . um, can we get going?
So as I was saying Stonybrook is full of adventure, why walk when you can jump?

Beautiful bridges to cross . . .

waterfalls aplenty . . .

look down and you can even find beauty . . .

but the best part of this trail is it ends at a playground . . .

Now, let's take a step back in time (they camped right near us).

Fire making, smore eating, hiking, playing, and so much more fun! As we drove out of the park the boys asked 'when can we go camping again?'

last day

This past Wednesday was Ambrose's last day of preschool; he is now officially a kindergartner! Where does the time go? The first day of preschool when I went to pick him up I remember breathing a sigh of relief that he was in the same clothes (and hadn't had an accident).

He certainly has grown during preschool. He loves to create and come up with various projects. He always seems to be planning (oh no, I passed this on), reading and enjoying sports. But I must say I've seen the most difference socially - in addressing people and playing with friends. His teachers have also commented how much he has grown this past year. Ambrose has seen the bus go by our house and can't wait to ride it this fall. Now the question is 'am I ready'?

outing to the zoo

A tortoise coming out of his shell as we watch,
eating some grass.
A sea otter having a relaxing swim upside down.
Another sea otter standing 'ready' to eat.
Birds flying towards their food.

Boys climbing, laughing and forgetting important things until outside zoo . . . oops.

father's day

Adult time at a friend's 50th birthday party. And an evening out with friends at a chocolate and wine tasting (thanks Grandma for babysitting).

Making daddy so proud with no more training wheels and starting out tonight on his own!

Little feet pedaling on their own (stretching to reach) without being pushed. Happy Father's Day to a wonderful husband and dad!
We love you!

his turn

I remember what a great feeling, head back, spinning and spinning. Going to the point of wanting to puke. Addicting.

For him the same, the music starts, giggling and I'm transported back in time.

faces of summer

Yesterday a neighbor friend came over and played with the boys. Armed with squirt guns, watering cans, paint brushes, a bucket and a kiddie pool full of water our backyard was quickly transformed. Splashing and giggling, shouts of 'oh, that's cold' and water paintings on the driveway (who knew a paintbrush and water would lead to sooo much fun). Plus a bonus for me my flowers got watered (and patio). What could top off all this fun, only one thing, Popsicles! Til the next time . . .

Take me out to the ball game . . . or was it I'm getting in the game?

Wait did you say there is a baseball game? I'm eating peanuts.

new blooms

Yellow roses this week,
emerging, so delicate.

Boys arriving home,
in the front yard to count new blossoms.

Everyday noticing more change,
appreciating the beauty, not too fast please
we love to watch you.

first camping

Over Memorial Day weekend we camped at Taughonnack Falls State Park and visited Buttermilk Falls State Park.

For fun we compiled a list of the 'ABC's of camping' to detail our experience. Ants, Birds, Camera, Dishes, Eating, Fire, Gear, Hiking, Ice cream, Jumping in water, Kid caught fish, Lantern, Marshmallows, Nature, Oak trees, Picnic, Quesadillas, Roads, Swimming, Throwing sticks into the fire, Us, Visitors, Waterfalls, Xing bridges, Yummy food and Zippers on sleeping bags.

What did you like best about camping? Blaise: 'sleeping in my sleeping bag, swimming in the falls and marshmallows'. Ambrose: 'watching a boy catch a fish in his hands, throwing sticks in the fire and marshmallows'.

If I was asked: 'watching the excitement on the boys' faces, reading almost an entire book and smores'.
