on display

The boys and I sat for a photo shoot last spring.  This photo now hangs in our local library as part of some permanent artwork.  We will have the chance to see it live tomorrow when the boys go to Lego Club.

BLAST

Check out the good looking date I had to the Seton BLAST!  The gym was transformed as if we were in Little Italy, complete with a running fountain and lights on the ceiling as if they were the stars in the sky.  The theme this year was 'Amore', and one of my neighbors/good friend was the co-organizer.  So much time and talent was put into this evening and it showed!

We had a great time catching up with people, bidding on silent auction items and eating some wonderful food.  We weren't the people that spent $3500 on a limo, dinner and tickets to the Bruno Mars show in Buffalo in the live auction.  And no we didn't win the 50/50 raffle (over $5300).  And although I would have loved the ipad or tuition voucher they both went to great families at our sons' school.

We took home some tasty treats and a gift card to one of my favorite restaurants!  That sounds like a pretty good evening to me.

helmer nature center

The second graders went on a field trip to Helmer Nature Center in Irondequoit this past Tuesday.  We learned all about the process of collected sap and turning it into maple syrup.  Each of the kids got to help drill into the tree and taste the sap.  It tastes just like water!

Then we saw where they boil down the sap.  40 gallons of sap equals 1 gallon of maple syrup.  And the best part we got to sample the sweet maple syrup!

this weekend

Another cold blustery weekend in Rochester but that didn't stop us from having tons of fun!  First up the St. Patrick's Day Parade.  We went dressed in green, lots of beads and shamrock stickers (unfortunately you could only really see the stickers).  Friends went downtown around 9am and set up their tailgating spot complete with grill, etc.  We prefer to arrive just in time for the parade, we arrived at 12:15pm (the parade started at 12:30pm).  We watched as leprechauns, Irish dancers, bands and more marched down East Avenue while eating hot dogs and snacks.

On Sunday, Jr. First Lego League Expo was held at RIT.  Ambrose and his team presented their research and model to two judges.  Their team showed the 'after' scene in a volcano where they had two vehicles that could scoop up lava and help people get out of the disaster.  They did an excellent job presenting and answering questions.

Ambrose, Turi, William and Katherine with Coach Schreiber

A Cub Scout pack meeting where around a 'fake' campfire skits and songs were done by each of the dens.  I must say this was my favorite pack meeting so far.  We watched the boys do hilarious skits and each one did a great job in front of an audience.
Last by not least, we celebrated Grandma Weidmann's birthday with a dinner of corned beef and cabbage with some homemade Irish Soda Bread.  Born on St. Patrick's Day and Irish herself we thought it only fitting.

time with friends

Growing up if playing with my two brothers wasn't enough then we ran across the grass and down two houses to the neighbors to see if they could play.  It was impromptu.  Maybe they could or maybe they couldn't.  Nowadays everyone is soooo busy.  You have to plan.  And it could be they aren't available for a couple of weeks.  Something called a 'play date'.

The boys yesterday had a 'play date' with two brothers (now that's convenient for me, only one phone call).  I don't mean to sound like this play date thing isn't okay I just miss the impromptu style.

What matters most is they are blessed to have some very nice friends and we find time to get together with them.

Ambrose and Mark played their own version of bananagrams

Mathew and Blaise cut out snowflakes and then ran around pretending it was snowing inside.  Really, there isn't enough outside?

ice skating party

Over February break we rented Manhattan Square Park.  The park is an ice rink in downtown Rochester.  We had over 100 people come and join us for some skating.  The boys of course had to check out the ice first . . . I swear that is their favorite part!  Good times.
