more photos

While in Sodus Point this weekend I captured these 2 shots watching the firemen try to sink each other's boats. I'm not sure what this is called but it is a annual event that goes on most of the day right across from the cottage (great vantage point!)

My task was to capture a different perspective - in this shot I captured 'above' and 'below' water.
The perspective in this shot was 'righting' of the boat after being sunk.

For today's shot the assignment was to 'have fun and do something kid-like'. Ambrose made a comment about seeing a bubble in my milk so I just took it a little further . . . fun!

WOW!

It really looks like a postcard!

Those 6 words really made my day today . . . they were written in a comment to me by the teacher of my photography class about the downtown Rochester postcard picture I took today. Funny thing is, we were on our way home from a concert (1/2 hr. concert over lunchtime in High Falls) and I got the idea to take a picture of the skyline. I tried one spot but I kept getting people in the picture. So I drove onto the Ford bridge, turned on the blinkers, got out quick and took 5 shots. Well, I guess this one worked!

picture postcards

Today's assignment was to take a picture and make it into a postcard.

The Rochester picture was taken today from the Ford Bridge while the Sodus Point picture was taken last summer. I guess now I just have to print and mail them . . .

wind

'Because you can't dial up the wind on demand, even a slight breeze can be an illusive element and can require a lot of patience. If you're in need of some enhancement, think of ways that you can create your own pleasant movement in the air and let it move you.'

No wind in Rochester today meant creating wind to capture these whirly birds 'floating' out of my hand (a little breath did the job). Patience was at a high (both myself and the boys). The boys helped by picking up the whirly birds with me each time I 'tried' again. They did awesome!

fruit

Sweet cherries from Burnaps (our fav farm market in Sodus Point).

I could eat these by the handful. So sweet!

Ambrose likes me to take the pit out for him. While Blaise just needs the stem removed in order to stuff the rest in his mouth. I remind him 'please, give mommy the pit'. He nods his head 'yes' while his check is stuffed with cherry and a couple of minute later, he says 'pit' and deposits it in my hand.

Luckily, I still had a few for today's photo assignment: juicy fruit

Photo Class: Day 2

'Whether it is the deep blue sea, a refreshing pool (any size will do), or the spray of sprinklers: water is one way to keep your cool during the summer months. Today, stage something splashy and capture your ultimate cool-down routine.'

Photo: Refresh after play all day.

photography class

Today I started a photography class online. It is a class for the month of July that challenges us to 'play' and take pictures . . . well, okay - sign me up!

The class assignment: 'As vague as this idea may seem, if you let yourself muse on what summer means to you, you could probably write a list that extends the page. Use that list as a catalyst. And as you consider a symbol of summer to shoot, challenge yourself to capture it with a little emotion. Get creative and try a few different things until you get the desired result.'

So I strapped on my camera and headed out to our activity for the day, a concert in downtown near High Falls. As the month continues I hope to have my photography skills progress, be creative, sharpen my 'eye' and just plain have fun.

My first two submissions: strawberry picking and High Falls. Looking forward to more . . .

new york city/mt. kisco

Two weekends ago (oops, a small delay in getting these pictures on here) we visited Uncle Andy, Aunt Sandra and Isabella. What a wonderful visit . . . seeing their new kitchen (wow-ee, it is fancy!), hanging out at their house and going into the 'big city'.

After taking a small poll the favorite items on Ambrose's list were: playing with Isabella and riding the train. Hmm, what about walking around Times Square, seeing the Empire State Building, Natural History Museum or Botancial Gardens???

Grand Central Station
We just went to a new exhibit at the George Eastman House called Colorama. Images that are on display at the GEH used to hang in GC Station as Kodak's ads. Pretty cool, I highly recommend the exhibit.

Blaise's favorite: smores!
