photo fun
Another leader challenged me to enter a photo from the Pinewood Derby. I admit I was so busy running around, watching the boys . . I didn't spend a lot of time taking photos. But this one I love because it shows them so interested in the race. I changed it to black and white, then the focus becomes their faces instead of the color of their uniform, etc. I added in the corner another shot for a neat collage look.

pinewood derby
Friday night the Cub Scouts went to the races! Cheers, count downs, songs, pizza, silliness and good old fashioned fun at this year's Pinewood Derby! Blaise made a 'minion' car titled by the adults as 'One-in-a-minion' and Ambrose designed a sleek fire em-blazed car titled 'Fahrenheit 3000'. Their cars raced well, not at the top but certainly held their own. Blaise won the Chairman's Award for his design. All-in-all a wonderful time was had by all. Note: they are already discussing their designs for next year.
Ambrose is light blue hat near left side, Blaise on far right end, first row.

places
The Pinewood Derby took place Friday night in our Cub Scout Pack. First the boys were able to view everyone's cars. Then the races began. First up were the siblings; Blaise took first place with his "Red Rider". Ambrose took third place in the Wolf Den for his car titled 'Socchi cool'.
For Ambrose it was all about the design of the car (in a previous post I posted photos of each of their cars). He designed his car to be a ski mountain that included fake trees, a skier made out of miniature clothespins and fake snow. To listen to him describe his car on the phone to my parents it was all about the detail for him.
Blaise on the other hand wanted a fast, red car. Well, it was fast (in fact I do wonder how he would have stacked up overall). But this is old-fashioned fun folks. Design a car with your own two hands, hang out with your friends and ooh and ah over the cars. What a fun night!
Ambrose Weidmann (3rd), Vincent Basile (2nd) and William Schreiber (1st)
On Saturday the boys had their last ski camp. Which I must admit seems strange since the best conditions are happening right now, such great snow for skiing (yes, even I'm enjoying it). Each group made a snowman and then practiced for the races. During the races, Blaise and Ambrose both took 1st place in their groups. Great job guys! We can't wait to hit the slopes again soon!

pinewood derby
Blaise is entering under the 'sibling' race . . .here is his red 'limousine'.
Ambrose made his car into a ski mountain with a 'clothespin' skier.
The cars have met weight and the race is next Friday, February 7th. Good luck!
