covid style halloween

Fragile box and Leg Lamp from Christmas story. I LOVE that the guys still want to work together on their costumes!

We met up with the Harvard Street gang for a quick group photo and then hit a few houses for trick-or-treating. Due to Covid we sized down our route and instead went to the Matzky's and enjoyed roasted hot dogs and smores. I think this should be our new annual tradition.

halloween parade

Our neighborhood's first Halloween parade was this afternoon.
We met at one of the neighbors' houses and the kids had their photos taken.

The adults lined the sidewalk . . .

. . . and the kids walked down the sidewalk to our presidents' house
where we were treated to apple cider and donuts.
It was such a success; there will be a parade next year!

Our own 'Man in the Yellow Hat' keeping 'George' from being too curious!

costumes

The Man in the Yellow Hat (Ambrose) and Curious George (Blaise)

This evening we went to the YMCA for a Halloween party. The boys bounced in the bouncy house, got 'scared' in the haunted room, walked through a spider web (on the track), threw balls to knock a lifeguard off a raft and into the pool, felt 'brains' (cauliflower) and 'intestines' (spaghetti), ate apples and drank cider . . .
. . . but the MOST popular event of the evening, hitting a balloon and keeping it up in the air
(no joke, I think they did it for close to an hour).

the cow jumped over the moon

Joe Regan (Shaggy), Sawyer Matzky (dog), Clementine Matzky (witch), William Schreiber (spider), Noah (star wars), Catherine Regan (Daphne), Katie Stanley (cheerleader), Mary Grace Schreiber (ballerina), Adelaide Matzky (Dorothy), Blaise (cow) and Ambrose (the moon)

Blaise by default (i.e. already had the costume and it fit) was the cow. When I asked Ambrose what he wanted to be he said 'the moon'. Funny I was thinking . . .farmer, but of course the moon, not sure why I didn't think of that right away.

Ambrose enjoyed running from house to house and sorting candy when we came back home (I remember doing the same thing as a kid. In case you were wondering, the candy with the highest number, tootsie rolls at 18.) Blaise tried to keep up but we helped by running along with the big kids and carrying him. He did such a good job with saying 'thank you' and always followed this up with 'and have a good night' . . . he heard one of the parents say it and then repeated it at every other house. Too cute!
