september camp out - mendon ponds park
It was a brisk 35 degrees overnight sleeping in our tent as a family (due to covid restrictions). The boys had fun playing football in the wide open field where two other groups were also camping (scout camping area).
A search in the woods for firewood and kindling resulted in Ambrose 'finding a pond' that was covered in leaves. Next thing you know a change of clothes was in order because he was soaked and muddy up to his waist.
Tacos in a bag by one patrol, tacos in pie irons for another while the adults made teriyaki chicken for dinner. Campfire program complete with long stories by Ambrose with short ending (geez, just get to the point).

Peg bike and a rope equals hours of entertainment.
A visit to the Walkers property means go karts and tractor fun! Blaise even drove a truck. Watch out!

Summer Vacation - ADK
We couldn't attend scout camp this summer because of Covid-19 so instead we participated in 'family camping'. We rented a cabin in Massawepie and had a view through the trees of Catamount Pond. There was a swing (until I swang too hard and broke it) and rowboat at the edge of the pond.
We started from the cottage and went along the Seaway Trail to Southwick Beach and Sacketts Harbor.

We drove out to the bog on the Massawepie Nature Preserve. We completed the 5 mile hike (actually 7.2 miles) and explored a couple of outposts.

One day we explored around Lake Placid. Up via the Cloudsplitter Gondola to Whiteface Mountain, Flume Falls and downtown Lake Placid (Mirror Lake).

All of the sites we saw while in the ADK were spectacular and it really makes you think about owning a cabin in the woods someday. BUT the best part was the excitement of the boys - for Blaise taking a good chunk of the day putting together a campfire program complete with skits, songs and jokes. For Ambrose it was finding a hollow log and making a jetfire.
Buttermilk Falls, Long Lake, NY
We hiked Cascade and Porter Mountains in 4 hours one day. Spectacular views all around but my favorite was looking at Cascade and how the rocks 'cascade' like a waterfall. ADK we can't wait to come back!
