stonybrook state park

We went camping with four other families to Stonybrook State Park this weekend.
We hiked the gorge trail and saw many waterfalls.

A hurt raccoon that was rescued by the park rangers.

And the trail ended at a playground, what fun!

Back to our campsite for marshmallow gun fun.

We found a clay pit and sculpted bowls out of the clay.

We painted our bodies with clay and painted rocks.

And had more marshmallow fun and lots of fun . . .

Then to eat smores we had to cut our own firewood.

Here is my attempt at getting a photo of the 'boys' . . .typical, couldn't stand still.

indoor fun on a hot day

At 93 degrees today we opted for some fun at Strong Museum. We saw some of the finalists for the 'Doodle for Google' contest, the theme being 'If I could travel to anywhere I would go to' . . .
New York's finalist, Marie Antoinette's Versailles.

The latest exhibit 'Design Zone' had us designing roller coasters and so much more!

We ate lunch in High Falls while listening to the Mambo Kings (fantastic group) and are headed to Seabreeze tonight, water rides here we come!

father's day

Up at the cottage for Father's Day
we had lots of time to play.
The wind was blowing hard
so we flew a kite in the yard.

At the beach we gave it our best try
to get it up in the sky.
Run, run fast as you can
but if you stop running you will be right back to where you began.

Here's the trick,
unfortunately we didn't learn quick.

Hardly any wind on the lake side,
off to the bay side and we weren't denied.
Up, up, how much fun
just don't look into the sun!

Everyone can have a turn to fly the kite
just make sure to keep it in your sight.

Don't ask me why
but Blaise tried to make Ambrose fly!

Kindergarten Celebration

For the last couple of weeks Ambrose has come home off the bus and told me how the two kindergarten classes are preparing for their celebration (graduation).  I've heard parts of songs, seen hand gestures and dance moves.  He has practiced and memorized his part that he will speak into the microphone.

Church clothes donned, partnered up with a kid from the other class (who happens to be a good friend and neighbor), let the celebration begin!

William and Ambrose

Ambrose reciting his part to thank everyone for coming and let everyone know to hold their applause til everyone receives their certificate and medal.

Mr. Cook (principal) handing Ambrose his certificate.

Everyone did a great job singing and dancing.  Now onto the party!

what I see around me

A small drip (oops, not all the way shut off) . . .

Carefully drawn house being bulldozed . . .

Brother time, building legos . . .

Hand waving to me . . .

Giggly eyes saying hello . . .

Wood playground to have fun on today . . .
Small steps taken now, soon will be big . . .

take another look

Take another look . . .
color or black and white,
closeup or far away.

My grandmother always used to say 'take time to smell the roses'.
The boys run outside to count how many roses we have.
Either way . . .take another look and enjoy.

baseball with Blaise

Twisting his hat around and around
until it hits the ground.
Drop his glove, run away
I don't need it to play any way.

Throw with left hand
where did the ball land?

Up to bat,
twist his hat,
eye on the ball,
not down the hall.
Blaise has a hit,
hope someone doesn't catch it in their mitt.

Blaise is four
wait, he is out the door!
